The primary mission of the Bureau of Fire Prevention is to prevent fires and minimize the risk of life and property loss through ongoing education and fire code enforcement.

Inspections
In 2021, the Bureau of Fire Prevention performed 80 residential inspections, 142 mercantile inspections, and 44 life hazard inspections. There were also 8 city properties and 6 houses of worship inspected. These inspections required 56 re-inspections in order to gain compliance with the NJ Uniform Fire Code. There were also 68 permits issued. Additionally, 19 complaints were received and addressed, with the necessity for 42 follow-up inspections. Inspections were performed by the Fire Official and one full-time and four on duty part-time Fire Inspectors. Each Inspector was responsible for proper documentation and service of all violations and orders, including follow-up and issuance of penalties, as needed, to bring up to compliance. There were also inspections performed for 11 mobile food vendors at the Ventnor City Farmers Market and the Summer Beach Concerts. Fire Inspectors were also on-site conducting inspections at the Downbeach Seafood Festival at Ski Beach.

Demonstrations
There were several Fire Prevention Demonstrations throughout the city during 2021. These included the annual Ventnor City Block Party, as well as Fire Prevention Week for local schools.

Investigations
The Bureau of Fire Prevention led walk-through familiarization drills with all VCFD Platoons of all of the high-rise apartment building throughout the city, as well as the VECC Educational Complex.
