While living in or visiting Ventnor City, it is important to keep in mind severe weather hazards and potential threats. Every family and business should have predefined emergency plans and always keep an emergency supply kit ready and stocked.
Get a Kit of Emergency Supplies
Be prepared to improvise and use what you have on hand to make it on your own for at least three days. What you have on hand when disaster strikes makes a big difference. Consider two kits. In one, put everything you will need to share where you are and make it on your own. The other should be a lightweight, smaller version you can take with you if you have to get away.

Create Family Emergency Plan
Family Communications Plan – Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so plan on how you will contact one another and review what you will do in different situations. Consider a plan where each family calls or e-mails the same relative in the event of an emergency. Choose an out of town contact and be sure everyone knows the phone number and e-mail address
Be Informed
Emergency Evacuation
You may be advised to seek shelter or evacuate well in advance of a hurricane depending on your proximity to the bay or ocean. Collect your emergency supplies and make plans before the appearance of dangerous storms and hurricanes.
Make Arrangements for Pets
If you must evacuate, take your pets with you if possible. However, if you are going to a public shelter, it is important to understand that animals are not allowed inside Red Cross shelters. Plan in advance for shelter alternatives that will work for both you and your pets.
Make a back-up emergency plan in case you can’t care for your animals yourself. Develop a buddy system with neighbors, friends, and relatives to make sure that someone is available to care for or evacuate your pets if you are unable to do so.
Remember to carry pets in a sturdy container. Bring identification, collar, leash, and proof of vaccination. Bring food and water for your pets. Carry a current photo of your pets in case they get lost.
