As a Commissioner of the City, I will be responsible for the Department of Revenue and Finance. I will work hard, as I have always done throughout my career, to ensure the Department of Revenue and Finance is a professional office with educated, dedicated, and responsive staff. I will ensure the city has a professional finance, clerk, and tax office, that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of our residents and taxpayers.
As a Commissioner, I will wear my taxpayer hat, as I have often done as Administrator, and look at costs, expenses, initiatives, and programs like a taxpayer would. As a taxpayer I am sensitive to the impact the city and school may have on our taxes.
I have lived in Ventnor for nearly 40 years, and I love this city. I would not want to be anywhere else. Like I imagine many of us feel, I want to be able to stay here. I want Ventnor to be affordable, safe, attractive, and enjoyable socially. Having recently been appointed to this position and more recently elected to it, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
Currently, I am a Sr. Manager and Management Consultant for Jersey Professional Management, a management consulting service firm covering a full range of municipal activities and responsibilities.
From August 2016 to February 2023, I served as the Administrator for the City of Ventnor where I was responsible for overseeing the operations of the city and worked closely with the Mayor and Commissioners and every Department on city initiatives and projects as well as the day-to-day functions of the city. I also managed personnel and participated in all union negotiations. Ventnor is represented by five unions.
I retired from the Administrator position in February 2023 to be appointed to the position of Commissioner; and later elected to this position in November 2023. Thank you for your vote!
I am a retiree of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA), where I served as Executive Vice President and Chief Finance Officer for about 25 years. At the ACUA I assisted the President in overseeing all operations, programs, projects and initiatives of the ACUA. I was directly responsible for the financial management of the authority’s Solid Waste and Wastewater operations, with a combined budget of over $60 million and completed over $160 million in solid waste financings and $140 million in wastewater financings. Financial management included accounting, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, rate making and expert testimony, cash management, debt management, investments, capital and grant management. I also managed Human Resources and Information Technology. Prior to the ACUA, I worked for Atlantic County Government for 11 years where I primarily served as the Payroll & Pension Officer, with a payroll as high as 1800 employees and representation from 13 unions.
I hold an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree in administrative services from Rowan University. I am also a Certified County Finance Officer, a Certified Municipal Finance Officer, a Certified Public Manager and hold a real estate license.
I have been an active participant in the community and have served in many board positions with various community organizations throughout my career. For me, giving back is important. In August 2021, I was appointed by the County Executive to the Atlantic County Utilities Authority Board of Commissioners and currently serve as Chair of the Personnel Committee. I recently retired from my role as Chair of the Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) Board of Trustees after serving more than 12 years. My college education first started at ACCC where I attained an associate degree. A few years ago, ACCC recognized me as a distinguished alumni.
I previously served on the board of the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey for many years where I was recognized as Volunteer of the Year and was Chair of its Women’s Leadership Initiative. I also served on the American Red Cross and Rowan Advisory Board. In 2012 my contributions to the Atlantic County community were recognized with an induction into the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame.
The life I experienced as a child and the examples I was shown have contributed to the reasons I believe in working hard and giving it your all. Dedication and commitment are key. I come from a modest loving family and believe I have been afforded many kindnesses. This is what made me who I am today. I also always felt I had a bit of luck in life when it came to my career path. Because of this, I find it important to give back to the community. Volunteering or serving on various boards has allowed me to give back, share a bit of myself, and say thank you.
I am here as your commissioner to serve you. Please feel free to reach out to me by email or phone to share ideas or if I can be of any assistance.
